Capio S:t Göran in Stockholm, Sweden is an emergency hospital for adult patients. The main emphasis is on basic emergency healthcare: medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, operations, IVA, laboratory services and X-rays. In 2007 Capio S:t Göran had 175,000 visitors, of which 65,000 were emergencies, 23,000 required healthcare and 11,000 operations. The hospital was the first in Sweden to be run as a limited liability company, starting in 1994. Since 2000 the emergency hospital has been a part of Capio AB, one of the leading private healthcare groups in Europe, and is the first, and so far only emergency hospital in Sweden with a private owner.
Every day we deliver 300 meals, including food rich in energy and protein, to all departments in the hospital. We also supply catering solutions for staff and all of the visitors in the hospital area in the form of restaurant, conference solutions, café/shop and vending machines.
Since October 2006 the flexible Steamplicity catering concept, which is recognised as producing tasty food, has been introduced in the hospital, and patients from all departments choose their meals from a broad selection of dishes, as well as the time of the meal.
“This catering solution allows the hospital to make better use of its premises, and we have lower operating costs. As the meals are prepared immediately when ordered by the patient, the nutrition in the food is better retained, and this is an important element of the patient’s recovery,” says Eva Thuresson, Deputy MD at Capio S:t Göran. “But the patients are satisfied too; the choice is very much appreciated, and the food tastes so good that there is also less waste now.”
